Closing date:31 July 2019 at midday

Pearson is currently recruiting Enhanced Examiner Report Editors.

Please note, to be considered for this role, applicant must have experience of producing  examiner reports.

1. Overview of the role

Report Editors play an important part in the production of Enhanced Examiner Reports. These reports are made available for centres on results days and are a vital source of information about how assessments performed in the summer series. The Enhanced Reports include examples of candidate responses to exemplify successful and less successful responses to different questions.

The report editor facilitates the production of the reports by ensuring that exemplar candidate responses are selected in epen. The editors ensure that the accompanying report is written to deadline and liaise with Assessment and Design Services to have the report typeset and signed off to a very high level of accuracy.

2. Responsibilities

A Report Editor must:

1. Participate in an initial training session, if required. This will normally be delivered online.

2. Be responsible for processing the reports assigned to you by Assessment. You will be asked to look after reports for specific subjects. You will not be expected to be a subject expert in all these subject areas so your allocation will not necessarily reflect your subject expertise. The time scale for producing the reports is very tight and the priority is to assign the work so it is completed

to deadline.

3. Check that PEs are selecting candidates’ work (clips) to include in their reports during the marking period. Whilst marking, PEs should be watching out for suitable examples of work and flagging them to appear in ERA. Approximately two weeks in advance of the PE’s submission deadline, you should check in ERA that work has been selected for use in the final report.

4. Contact report writers one week in advance of the submission deadline to check that production is on track. PEs have been given their submission deadlines by their Qualification Delivery and Award Managers (QDAM) or Subject Leader (SL). It is essential to check with the PEs that they are proceeding to schedule and that these deadlines will be observed. You should also remind the PEs that they must inform you when their report is complete and they have exported it on ERA.

5. Make an initial quality assessment of incoming reports to see that they are fit for purpose. This is the first time that you will see the completed report. This initial check will reveal any obvious major problems, eg no clips included, no introduction and/or no summary, which would necessitate the return of the report to the PE for further work.

6. Edit reports within ERA for content, adherence to writer guidelines, spelling, punctuation and grammar. PEs have been issued with guidelines for report writing (Appendix A). As the editor, you must ensure that the report follows these guidelines, and is also free from grammatical and typographical error.

7. Make the reports available to the Qualification Delivery and Award Managers (QDAM) or Subject Leader (SL) for a subject check. The QDAMS and SLs are responsible for the delivery of the subjects and need to review the reports to make sure that any subject specific issues have been dealt with. The QDAMs and SLs may contact you direct if there is anything they need to

bring to your attention.

8. Use ERA to export reports to DTP and advise them that the reports are ready for typesetting. The report must be proofread and edited within ERA. All textual amendments must be made within ERA. When you are satisfied that the report does not need any further amendment and is in its final form, export the report and inform DTP that the report is ready for typesetting.

9. Engage with DTP in the proofreading process from first proof to sign off (the proofreading process includes checking the publication code). The exchange of proofs will be between you and DTP. The timescale for the process allows for no more than 2 proofs so editors must be precise in their work.

10. Sign off reports as passed for press. When the report is ready for publication, you will approve the final document.

3. Experience required

Essential:

Experience of editing assessment reports

Desirable

Experience of proofreading

Qualifications:

Degree (or equivalent).
