Edexcel is recruiting a Principal Examiner for the Edexcel Award in Algebra

Pearson's Edexcel Award in Algebra is designed to test competency in Algebra at level 2 and level 3 and offer all learners the opportunity to gain a mathematical qualification in the basics. The award is designed to sit alongside Functional Skills Maths and GCSE Maths.

We are looking to recruit an outstanding individual to help lead the senior examining teams for this Award. The Principal Examiner will be involved in a range of activities at each stage of the assessment cycle. Their responsibilities will include writing question papers and mark schemes, as well as being responsible for the standardisation of the markers.

Responsibilities of the role will include:

· To produce a working draft paper / respond to any amendments or suggestions and produce a draft paper at level 2 and level 3.

· To set / approve questions and mark schemes - demonstrate the specification's content and assessment criteria has been met in the question papers (may take the form of a grid). Its content should be clear and fit for purpose.

· To attend the Question paper Evaluation Committee meeting (QPEC) and produce a final draft.

· To ensure final question papers meet the specification content and assessment objectives.

· To ensure parity of standards across optional questions and question papers

· Monitor the marking standards of all examiners (including Assistant Principal Examiners, Team Leaders, and Examiners), ensuring accuracy and consistency throughout.

· To monitor the standards of examiners, advise on their appointment, training, and reappointment.

· To attend the awarding meeting, advise on mark ranges for the grade boundaries.

· To submit an evaluation report on performance of the question paper

To be eligible for this role, you will need to be a qualified teacher, with experience delivering the relevant subject and level, and with some external assessment experience, ideally at Team Leader level. You will have experience of managing a team, with excellent communication and organisation skills.
