SENIOR STANDARDS VERIFIER WBL (Work Based Learning) – Pharmacy

Purpose of this role:

The Senior Standards Verifier will be the responsible expert in terms of specification interpretation and verifier standardisation for a range of programmes within WBL Pharmacy across all relevant frameworks or standards. To monitor assessment and internal verification for a range of programmes within a Principal Subject Area (PSA) of WBL Pharmacy in order to report on national standards across centres. 

The role also includes undertaking sampling of assessment and internal verification decisions and records for competence/skills -based qualifications within the Pharmacy sector in order to affirm that national occupational standards have been achieved and upheld. Support, advise and guide centres based on the outcomes of the sampling process. Direct centres in the delivery of Pharmacy qualifications towards the achievement of national occupational standards. The Senior Standards Verifier will need to maintain a Standards Verifier role with the WBL Assessment team.

(Within the Pharmacy sector, Pearson currently offers the following qualifications – BTEC Level 3 Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians, BTEC Level 2 Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Support Staff. There may also be legacy learners on NVQ Levels 2–3 Pharmacy Service Skills and BTEC Levels 2–3 Pharmaceutical Science)

Key Accountabilities:

For Pharmacy qualifications in the Pharmacy sector for which competency/skills (and occupational competency where relevant) is demonstrated, the Senior Standards Verifier (WBL) will:

 Sample assessment and internal verification decisions in order to report that national standards are maintained

Hold sector specific responsibility for assessment advice and standards interpretation 

Offer specialist advice and support to centres and Standards Verifiers (SV) and Senior/ Team Leaders (S/TLs) in relation to the content and interpretation of specifications, assessment, and delivery

Provide sampling-related support and development to SVs (Standards Verifiers) and S/TLs

Review SV and S/TL reports to comment on the maintenance of national standards

Identify and escalate issues of adverse standards interpretation

Undertake a proactive role in maintaining national standards

Develop the content for the training and standardisation of SVs

Lead and deliver training events to centres and SVs as required

Performance Manage a range of SVs and S/TLs across the PSA, providing advice and guidance where applicable as well as carrying out 3xRAG reports on each through the year. You will also be required to complete a Summative report for each member in your team and grade them on their performance. Alongside this you will support your team of S/TLs as they monitor and manage their teams of TLs/SVs

Produce an end of year report within the parameters of a defined template in order to comment on national standards

Report back to Pearson within agreed service-level agreements

Contribute to Pearson’s ‘Ask the Expert’ service

Represent Pearson as required

Undertake any other duties appropriate to the work of WBL Assessment in relation to this role

Monitor the sampling/verification of Apprentices on Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeships undertaken by SVs

Undertake any other duties appropriate to the work of WBL Assessment in relation to this role.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Previous Work Experience:

Essential

Significant experience in delivering and assessing NVQs/competence-based qualifications

Significant experience as a Standards Verifier and/or External Verifier

Holds a relevant qualification in External Quality Assurance

Evidence of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) in the field of assessment and delivery of vocational qualifications

Currently registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and will remain on the register for the duration of their role as Senior Standards Verifier with Pearson

A willingness to engage in online training and standardisation and to use technology-based approaches for communication and centre support significant experience in delivering and assessing competence/skills -based qualifications

Skills & Knowledge:

Essential

A clear understanding of the educational landscape and regulatory requirements for qualifications within the Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF), National Qualification Framework (NQF), and the Regulated Qualification Framework (RQF)

Detailed knowledge of the specifications that comprise the area of expertise for the role

Excellent report writing skills

Ability to edit materials to ensure they are grammatically correct and fit for purpose

Excellent communication, written, verbal, IT (Information Technology) and interpersonal skills

Ability to understand the implications of decisions taken on Pearson’s behalf and not to operate outside the sphere of responsibility defined within this job description

Demonstrable people management skills
