Reference:NCA/Team_Leader Team Leader (TL)(formerly Senior Marker) TLs report into SMs and sit above the live onscreen markers on the marking hierarchy, at a supervisory level. Team Leaders (TLs) are responsible for supervising and supporting teams of markers in maintaining the agreed marking standard throughout a test cycle. TLs report into Senior Markers (SMs) within the marking hierarchy. They possess good knowledge of Key Stage 2 tests and either have a proven record of fulfilling supervisory marker roles through a test cycle or show readiness to progress to a supervisory role based on past marking performance. TLs, supported by SMs, monitor the completion and quality of marking and carry out quality assurance checks on their team of markers. Duties are undertaken under the conditions, timeframes and arrangements set by the Marking Workstream Team (MWT) and the Standards and Testing Agency (STA). Role Specific Services and Expectations· Training, managing and supporting new and existing markers, addressing marker queries and escalating to SMs, as necessary. · Monitoring the marking of pupil scripts throughout marker training and live marking processes. All marking of pupil scripts is to be in accordance with the mark scheme, whilst adhering to marking procedures and scheduled deadlines. · Supporting the delivery of mark scheme training meetings for markers, including leading training sessions where required. · Carrying out marking quality assurance checks on markers’ allocations, including check marking, monitoring marking accuracy agreement against seed items and check marking and providing feedback where necessary. · Accessing management information (MI) reports to monitor the progress and quality of marking and using this information to take any necessary remedial actions to maintain marking completion and quality assurance. · Escalating to SMs any issues arising from markers and working with SMs to take remedial action. · Reviewing scripts escalated by markers and ensuring all such scripts are marked appropriately, escalating to SMs if needed · Marking a small allocation of items and supporting with the marking of any other unmarked onscreen items or exception scripts, if required, in order to support marking completion. · Participating in review marking, if available and if required. · Undertaking the performance management of markers against key performance measures. · Providing final marker grades for direct reports. Core Services and Expectations· Being able to participate in and lead marking activities, such as virtual training and onscreen marking, in a private place. · Maintaining confidentiality in all aspects of the role, ensuring that test security and pupil information is not compromised. · Acting at all times in a way that will not bring Pearson, its clients, its employees or its representatives into disrepute. Not disclosing any information about any aspect of work with Pearson, for example, on forums, social networking sites etc. · Acknowledging and responding to all contact from the Senior Markers and other senior members of the marking hierarchy, direct reports, the Marking Workstream Team and any other Pearson team member, in a timely manner. · Following the appropriate routes of escalation for queries and concerns, as required. Direct escalation to the STA is not to be made. · Conducting (within reason) administrative tasks that Pearson employees/representatives require as part of this role. · Completing/passing all the relevant eLearning online training modules. Competencies Required· Have a high level of subject knowledge in order to effectively incorporate mark scheme principes in creating marker training materials. · Promote success and take a proactive lead in the training of markers, at all levels of the hierarchy. · Have the ability to lead a team under pressure and ensure compliance with all deadlines. · Have organisational and administrative skills, good forward planning and time management skills, and attention to detail. · Have effective interpersonal and communication skills to successfully lead the hierarchy of markers. · Be IT literate. Experience and Qualifications Required· Have a degree or equivalent qualification. · Have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a valid Teacher Reference Number (TRN). · Have been a primary school teacher. · Have a minimum of two full academic year’s teaching experience within the current English National Curriculum. · Have either held the position of a supervisory marker role or achieved the highest grade as a marker across all items in the subject applied for. · Have subject-specific expertise and knowledge for the contracted subject to lead on the marking of pupil responses across all item types.

We will manage the end-to-end process for these tests which involves the printing, distribution, and collation of over nine million test papers annually for KS1 and KS2 tests as well as administering the marking of four million KS2 test papers annually. As part of this contract, we will require a team of markers of various ranks to deliver all marking requirements for KS2 English reading, English GPS and Mathematics.
